Simulation Training

SoldierThe Tatitlek Corporation, through its subsidiary Tatitlek Support Services, Inc. (TSSI), performs the Contractor Logistic Support on the U.S. Marine Corps’ Indoor Simulated Marksmanship Trainer - Enhanced (ISMT-E) project. This training system uses computer generated imagery projected onto a screen or screens to train the Marines on the use of all their light weapons. The simulated weapons fire a laser that can be tracked by the system as a shot pattern. A fully sensored simulated weapon can even denote if the weapon is being held properly by checking the weapon's cant angle, trigger pressure, and butt plate pressure.

There are many scenarios on which to train. It can be as simple as stationary target practice on the range or as complicated as entering a hostile situation, such as an ambush, or clearing a building of possible threats. The Marines can even design unit-specific training (creating their own training missions).

The simulated weapons use valves and air pressure to make them seem more realistic. This allows the simulated weapons to recoil when fired, very similar to how a real weapon would behave. Most of the older simulated weapons have an electronics cable and an air line hooked up to them, referred to as a tether. Some of the newer generation of simulated weapons (BlueFire) use Bluetooth wireless technology along with a refillable air canister that is identical to the weapons magazine and fits directly into the magazine well. This brings even more realism to the training.

TSSI services more than 430 systems, comprising some 15,000 simulated weapons, in 150 locations CONUS, Japan, Bahrain, and Rota, Spain. The weapons include the M9, M16, MP5, M4, M203, M870 shotgun, M249 LMG(SAW), M240G MMG, M2 HB cal.50 HMG, MK19 40mm grenade launcher, M224 60mm and M252 81mm mortar launcher(s), SMAW and AT4 rocket launcher(s), and the FGM-172 SRAW (Predator).

ISMT-E contract personnel are located in Camp Pendleton, California; Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; Okinawa, Japan; and Atlanta, Georgia. Additional services include weapon and system components repair and operation training for the Marine ISMT-E instructors.
